In South Carolina, the town of Beaufort is pronounced “Be-you-fort” like in “beautiful” so don’t make the mistake of confusing this cute little town with the one in North Carolina which is pronounced with a “Bow” to start. I’m not sure how they acquired that pronunciation because it likely has French origins which would never be pronounced like that, but who am I to suggest differently.

If you happen to be in the area, say you’re heading to or from Charleston or Savannah, you should make the detour to this quaint little enclave. It’s not that far off the beaten path, maybe 20 minutes off the main road through here heading north and south, so consider the detour. You won’t regret it!!!

The shops and restaurants down by the waterfront in, aptly named, “Waterfront Park” are full of some great stuff and good foods. Take a load off and enjoy the view at sunset or any time of day out over a bulge in the Beaufort River that meanders through the area. There’s plenty of shops, restaurants, and bars to keep you interested and lots of outdoor stuff for the adventurer. Seriously, give it a look-see!
